The part nobody teaches

You need talent and passion.

But they don't get you the job.

Every gym has one person who should be in movies. Almost none of them are. I've sat on the hiring side of the table for years, and the martial artist who gets the call is rarely the best one in the room. It's the one whose reel sells a hit to camera in the first ten seconds, whose name is already on a coordinator's list, and who was easy to work with the last time.

Your gym doesn't teach that. Stunt school barely does; you can spend $5,000 on a three-week course and walk out with a high fall and no idea how to get hired. That gap, between being good at fighting and being hired to fight on camera, is what this coaching fills.

Who this is for

Three kinds of martial artist. Same problem.

The competitor

You compete, or train like you do. Striking, MMA, grappling, wushu, tricking, it doesn't matter. People keep telling you that you should be in movies, and you have no idea how that actually happens.

The instructor

You teach, you run a gym, or you've been training for a decade. The skills are there. What you don't have is a reel, a résumé a coordinator will read, or a single name to send them to.

Already tried

You've done some background work, a fight scene for a friend's short, maybe a few non-union days. The reel isn't landing, the calls aren't coming, and you can't tell what's wrong.

How it works

Book the call. Get a read. Decide.

1

Book a free Career Read

Twenty minutes on video. Send your reel and résumé ahead if you have them. Pick a time that works in your time zone; I coach from Asia, so North American evenings and European afternoons are wide open.

2

Get an honest read

I'll tell you where you actually stand, what your next three moves are, and whether coaching will help. If it won't, I'll say so.

3

Choose the coaching

If it's a fit, we start the Break-In Blueprint: six sessions over eight weeks that rebuild your reel, your résumé, your outreach, and your plan.

Who's coaching you

Kirk Caouette

For over ten years one of the top 1% of stunt performers in North America, and a stunt double for dozens of actors on some of the biggest franchises in the world. Thirty-two years in film and television as a performer, double, and coordinator.

I came up through martial arts, tricking, and parkour myself, so I know exactly what a martial artist walks in with and what the camera does to it. As a coordinator I've hired performers across Canada, Asia, and internationally, which means I've read thousands of résumés, watched thousands of reels, and made the calls you're trying to get. I coach from Asia, over video, to martial artists anywhere English is spoken.

Straight answers

Before you book

I'm a competitor, not a performer. Does that matter?

It's the most common place to start, and the easiest to fix. Competitors are used to winning; on camera you're hired to double the hero, play the bad guy, or both, and to sell a fight where the hits never land. We'll go through what carries over from your discipline, what you have to unlearn, and how to show a coordinator you can do it.

Do I need screen-fighting experience before I book?

No. Bring what you have. If all you have is years of training and a phone, that's enough for the free call, and we'll build the reel from there.

Is this physical stunt training?

No. This is career and business coaching over video. I will never coach a fall, a burn, a fight, or a wire gag remotely, and you shouldn't trust anyone who will. For physical training, I'll point you to the right people in your market.

Do you guarantee I'll get work?

No, and nobody honest will. What you get is a clear read on where you stand, a reel and résumé a coordinator will actually watch, a list of who to contact and how, and a plan. What you do with it is yours.

I'm not in North America. Does this still apply?

Yes. I've worked in Canada, Asia, and internationally, and the hiring side works the same way almost everywhere: a coordinator, a list, a reel, and a reputation. We'll cover the union and market specifics for wherever you are.

What time zones do you work in?

I coach from Asia (UTC+7). That puts North American evenings and UK and European afternoons in my working day. Booking shows times in your own zone.

Why only ten clients at a time?

Because this is one-on-one, not a course with my name on it. Each Blueprint gets six hours of my full attention plus reviews between calls, and I still work in the business. Ten is the number where every client gets me, personally, and never a rushed version of me.

What if the free call tells me coaching isn't right for me?

Then you got twenty minutes of honest advice for free, and I'd rather you spend your money on training. I'll tell you straight.
